How to Change the Front Axle on Your Kirby Vacuum
Kirby vacuums are known for being bulletproof, however when they do require repair, it’s often due to the front axle. Since this is one of the more common repairs, we have made a video that demonstrates how to replace it in all Kirby models – from the G3 on up.
Important Safety Tips
- Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
- Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
- Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
- If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.
Tools:
- G5 and above: T20 Torx bit
- G3 and G4: Phillips head screwdriver
- Kirby Front Axle Assembly
Instructions:
To start out: lift up the lid, turn the belt lifter to the “belt off position,” and lift up the latch.
The head will fall, so move it out of the way.
Tilt your Kirby back and you will see two screws under the axel. Remove these, but be sure to hold onto the axle as you remove the last screw so that it doesn’t fall. Keep the screws in a safe location so that you don’t lose them!
As you remove the axle hold onto the height adjuster, because there is a spring that may fly out.
Now you’re ready to put the replacement axel in. Put the height adjuster back in the slot first. Then, taking the new axel, push down on it firmly as you pop the axle into place.
Keeping a hold on the axle, replace the screws, then replace the head, and congratulations! You’ve successfully replaced the front axle of your Kirby vacuum cleaner!
