Instructions
How do you know when to change your belt? Well, if you’re vacuuming your floor and the indicator light starts coming on and off or you smell a burning smell that usually means the belt is starting to slip. Time to replace it!
The first thing you need to do is take off the head. You have to do this part right, because if you do it wrong the belt won’t engage when you put it back on the machine. Start this process by lifting the lid.
You’ll see two green arrows that are aligned. Spin the belt lifter so that the two red arrows are aligned.
Now that the belt is disengaged you can release the head - it will drop down and you can remove it.
If you look inside you’ll see that the belt is stretched up.
Next, turn the levers on the back of the head, which allows you to remove the bottom plate.
Then turn the belt lifter back to green to release the belt.
Remove the brush roll and old belt.
Take the time to familiarize yourself with the Kirby brush roll. Each side is numbered, which allows you to adjust how high or low it sits in the head. If you have a lower carpet you will probably pick a higher number so that it makes better contact.
Slide the new belt on the brush roll.
Now put the brush roll back in the head, making sure the set both sides to the desired number.
With one hand hold the belt firmly against the brush roll and, with the other, turn the belt lifter back to the red arrows.
Replace your bottom plate.
Take note of the two hooks on the back of the head. These will need to hook onto the bar on the vacuum.
Tilt the head up and latch it in place.
Finally, turn the belt lifter back to green on green. You’re done!
