How to Remove the Water Separator on any Rainbow Vacuum!
Here’s a quick tutorial on removing the water separator on any model of Rainbow vacuum. These separators should be removed and cleaned often; preferably after each use. The more often you clean your water separator, the better your vacuum will run, and the longer it will last! If you need a new Rainbow Water Separator wrench, send us an email at service@greatvacs.com with your Rainbow model information, and we’ll get you taken care of!

Rainbow E-series 1 speed:
To remove the water separator nut you can use the wrench that usually comes with the E-series vacuum cleaners. If you don’t have that, you can use a ½” socket or just a flat head screwdriver.
If you use a screwdriver you can insert it into the slot on the top of the nut and grab the water separator with your hand. Twist the water separator clockwise as you turn the nut counterclockwise to loosen.
Sometimes they can be really tight and it may help to really press down on the water separator as you turn it. If all else fails, using a ½” socket with a socket wrench will usually give you enough leverage.
Remove the nut and then you can remove the water separator by pulling it up.
Rainbow SE models:
The best way we’ve found to remove the nut on SE cans is to insert the flat head screwdriver into the slot on top of the nut and push down on the water separator with your other hand - just like we showed in the previous vacuum cleaner. If you do need more leverage, you will need a 9/16” socket or wrench.
Rainbow E2 models:
Here we are showing you an E2 Black, but this technique will work on the E2 Gold and the E2 Blue as well. These are a little different because you can’t use a flat head screwdriver since there is no slot on top of the nut. You will also note that the nut is plastic, so you don’t want to use a metal socket or wrench on it.
You will need to use the included wrench tool! If you need a new Rainbow Water Separator wrench, send us an email at service@greatvacs.com with your Rainbow model information and we can help you out.
To remove the water separator, use this plastic wrench on the nut counterclockwise while holding the water separator with your other hand and turning clockwise. Usually the nut isn’t on super tight because it is plastic, and you can loosen it with your fingers.
